Distinguishing Disadvantage from Ill-Being in the Capability Approach

Abstract Central capabilitarian theories of well-being focus exclusively on actual opportunities to attain states being and doing that people have reason value. Consequently, these characterise ill-being disadvantage as deprivations such attainments. However, some aspects are inherently negative. They make up the difference between not well unwell in they constitute ill-being. While can be plausibly captured by deprivations, cannot fully them. I support this claim analysing cases involving negative homelessness mere beings doings conclude is only about what one do, but also one’s enduring, avoid, doings. Theories policies should reflect get things right, do right people.
